Get to know… Jackson Sebastian

What do you do at MRG?

I am a Senior Practice Manager for Malaysia, specialising in construction property engineering. I manage a number of campaigns across retained search, executive search, Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and project-based recruitment campaigns within the engineering industry.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?

I’m very proud of my involvement in a very technical recruitment campaign in which we made more than 100 placements in a year. My team and I worked tirelessly to ensure the campaign ran smoothly, and it showed in our overall productivity.

How did you get into recruitment at MRG, and why?

In my early career as a recruitment specialist I really focussed on structuring strong candidate networks and understanding the market. Upon approaching MRG I was really interested to expand my knowledge in the engineering industry. Besides that, the work culture at MRG also attracted me.

What energises you about working in this sector?

I find this sector challenges me every day and I enjoy speaking to new people every day, whilst getting to build new relationships with people in the market.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?

Many things have changed throughout my recruitment journey, in particular the importance of building a strong employer brand. You also have to constantly think now of new and creative methods that can be implemented to ensure a great candidate experience.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

Maybe a bit controversial, but I don’t really like sweets.

What’s the best advice anyone has every given you?

Never forget to say thank you. Never forget that everything comes at a price. Never forget to stop and appreciate how far you’ve come. Never forget that who you are is so much greater than what you do.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Hardworking, dedicated and passionate.

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?

I don’t know who would play me, but I think I’ll answer this differently and say that I would love to play the Joker; he views the world from a different perspective and I think he’d be a fun character to explore.
