What do you do at MRG?

I am a Senior Practice Manager at MRG. I recruit Events, Hospitality and Operational roles into Higher Education, and the wider Commercial Sector.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?

As a graduate at my first recruitment company, I was one of the first four employees to join the business and was involved in the growth to a national team of 40 consultants, directors and managers. I was heavily involved in inductions/buddying for new starters and creating a great company culture. I also grew my own desk from scratch.

How did you get into Commercial Services recruitment, and why?

I always had a fascination for cooking from a young age, learning from my Dad. I also loved eating and drinking out and had a good knowledge of the London hospitality scene. My outgoing personality and ability to build strong relationships made commercial recruitment an obvious choice.

What energises you about working in this sector?

The people are very outgoing and naturally friendly. I find that people working with a retail or hospitality background are so grateful for the opportunity to work in a new sector like higher education.

What's the biggest thing that's changed in recruitment since you started?

For me personally, it is the level I recruit at; I now approach my relationships as more of an advisor, or a consultant. The pace has also changed, with all my campaigns now being retained and being managed over a 4–6-week period.

What do you think the biggest misconception people have about you is?

I think a pre-conceived idea people can have about recruiters, in general, is that we’re largely results driven. As I’ve developed and grown, and come to work on more strategic roles, I’ve developed a relationship led approach which I find a lot more rewarding.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I’m half Polish. Although I don’t speak a word of the language, I still think I have some traits from my dad’s side of the family. I also know how to cook a great Polish dinner.

What’s the best advice anyone has every given you?

Manners cost nothing.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Outgoing, loyal, sarcastic.

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?

Ryan Reynolds
