Get to know… Carmen Wilfred

What do you do at MRG?

I joined MRG People Asia to lead the RPO for Lendlease, and now I have moved into an Operations role responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of our global improvement strategy at MRG PA. This role will manage the analysis and optimisation of MRG People Asia’s business processes and lead the continuous improvement initiative to improve the overall business performance.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?

I am most proud of my versatility when working across various industries and functions. I have successfully recruited for various industries including Energy, Hospitality, FMCG and Real Estate both in-house and agency recruitment.

Aside from recruitment, I have gained experiences in other functions including auditing and contract management and feel fortunate to be given the opportunity to move into an operations role within MRG People Asia.

How did you get into recruitment, and why?

I had joined a recruitment firm on an internship, which specialised in recruitment for the hospitality industry, and as they say, the rest is history.

What energises you about working in this sector?

Being able to interact with people from various backgrounds, countries and cultures, plus being able to provide people with career opportunities and growth.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?

The use of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) have become a lot more common (things were a lot more manual when I first started), and the bloom of recruitment agencies across various sectors.

What was your journey into working in recruitment in Malaysia?

Whilst at university I had interned for a recruitment company in The Netherlands. Upon my graduation, I returned to Malaysia and joined their sister company, who specialised in hospitality recruitment for the Asian market.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I play the piano and use to perform at weddings and charity events. I can’t play as good as I used to and the thought of performing publicly now is nerve-racking, but it is something I would like to get back into again.

What’s the best advice anyone has every given you?

“Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Reliable, organised and a team-player

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?

Lily Collins
