What do you do at MRG?
I work within the Estates and Facilities team, focussing on our PBSA business. I cover roles across Operations, Facilities, Sales and Residence Life.
What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?
Achieving a double promotion with MRG, from Practice Manager to Associate Director, was definitely a highlight for me.
How did you get into PBSA recruitment and why?
I used to recruit client side and consultant project managers, however, when I moved to MRG I was given the opportunity to grow and develop the new Student Accommodation desk within a highly established team – it seemed like a no brainer!
What energises you about working in this sector?
Firstly, the people I place in student accommodation can have a positive impact on students’ lives, making a real difference on a day-to-day basis.
Secondly, the sector is growing quickly and is very focused on customer service, meaning I get to work with innovative and friendly individuals.
What is the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?
The biggest change has been how much the sector has adapted to remote working. It has always been a face-to-face industry, however, even before the pandemic we were already implementing video interviews for our distance campaigns. Since COVID, being able to work remotely has been a necessity and the industry has changed rapidly to adapt to this.
What do you think the biggest misconception people have about you is?
Everyone thinks I’m a crazy cat lady… I only have one cat and my favourite animal is actually a crocodile.
What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I have a degree in Dental Technology, the study of making false teeth!
What’s the best advice anyone has every given you?
‘You make your own luck’.
As a child I always believed that some people were luckier than others, as an adult I’ve learnt that this isn’t true; hard work and perseverance almost always pay off!
What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
It depends who you ask! Hardworking, conscientious and (a little bit of a) rebel!
