What do you do at MRG?

I recruit for Quantity Surveyors for the Cost Consultancy market and also some ad hoc roles for specific clients.

What are you most proud about what you have achieved in your career to date?

Being a foreign woman in the London construction market, it must be the fact that I managed to establish strong, long-lasting relationships with clients and candidates in the QS industry and have also become known as an importer of South African cost managers!

How did you get into Quantity Surveying recruitment and why?

It chose me!  I had an opportunity to start a career in recruitment & the company had a need for someone to cover the QS sector and the rest is history.

What energizes you about working in this sector and with Quantity Surveyors?

I have a great passion for architecture and the London construction market. I also enjoy working with such a wide range of individuals in the QS market.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in QS since you started?

The rise of the SME Cost Consultancies has certainly changed the face of the London QS market. Clients & candidates have also come to a realisation that it is beneficial to work closely with a select few recruiters offering bespoke services.

What do you think the biggest misconception people have about you is?

That I speak English at home, my first language is actually Afrikaans.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I am a born & bred farmgirl from South Africa. And I’m a bookworm.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Just be true to yourself.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Direct, honest and loyal.

And finally who would play you in the movie about your life?

Ideally Jack Nicholson…. But if I have to choose a woman, Elizabeth Taylor!
