With more than 8,000 staff, 36,000 students, and a turnover of c.£700m, the University of Birmingham is a leading Russell Group University. Our heritage as the UK’s original ‘red brick’ and civic university, is combined with one of the most compelling and ambitious agendas in higher education. Quite simply, at Birmingham we make things happen.

Home to world-class researchers whose work on everything from new cancer treatments to harnessing the power of atoms for future energy sources makes a real difference to people’s lives - the university provides innovative solutions to big problems. We think, recruit, and compete worldwide. The stunning, 300-acre Edgbaston campus is iconic.

The University is part way through a major change programme named Student Administration Refresh and Simplification (StARS), that will transform many aspects of student administration for the benefit of staff and students alike. It represents a major step towards improving persistent challenges in the student experience.

The Transformation Programme Director will report to the University Academic Registrar and will be responsible for leadership, development and delivery of the programme through effective collaboration and management and driving a comprehensive programme plan in collaboration with the StARS Technical Director. This will require close working with a wide range of stakeholders across the University and ensuring effective leadership and management of the diverse programme team to deliver the transformational change required.

We are seeking a programme management / change professional with a demonstrable track record of leading a complex programme that has delivered similar transformational change within a higher education institution or a comparable complex organisation. The post will suit individuals with required significant levels of collaboration with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator, who possesses the ability to produce project documentation of the highest quality and the experience to present confidently to a wide audience. You will have a proven track record of operating successfully as a senior leader and will possess the gravitas to influence senior colleagues at the highest institutional level.
