Birmingham City University is seeking to recruit to the role of Deputy Director of Estates & Facilities (Development).

We’re investing £340 million in our estate to provide students with an enviable range of facilities, including a major expansion of our city centre campus at Eastside in addition to playing a crucial role in the Commonwealth Games legacy as one of the Alexander Stadium’s anchor tenants post-Games. The Complete University Guide ranked BCU as a top 30 UK university for spending on facilities in 2015.

Reporting to and deputising for the Director of Estates and Facilities, the postholder will take lead responsibility for the delivery of the University’s ambitious £340m capital programme. Key areas of responsibility include strategic planning and masterplanning, capital programme development and delivery, property and asset management, space management, BIM and construction safety.

The successful candidate will have proven experience of leading major capital projects and programmes across complex estate portfolios. You will be adept at communicating with and reporting to stakeholders confidently at a senior level, given the need ensure that key stakeholder groups have confidence that the University is deriving best value and outcome from the capital investment in its Estate.

Strong leadership and management skills are essential, as you will be required to lead and inspire an internal team as well as external consultants and contractors. You will possess a relevant technical background and knowledge gained in the construction and property industry, thus giving the capability to lead the team confidently on technical matters.

The role offers the chance to play an influential part in the regeneration of Birmingham at a hugely exciting time for the City with unprecedented public and private sector investment in property, infrastructure and public realm over the next decade.
