We’re currently mandated to source a Commercial Director (New Business) for a highly reputable development and construction business who are a widely considered the leading independent developer within their sector.

This is a brand new role within the senior leadership team, holding overall responsibility for devising and implementing new business initiatives across the specialist developer, including structuring acquisitions, funding, managing third party operators and the successful procurement of land. A natural influencer with people skills, they will be responsible for developing strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Purpose

The aim of the Commercial Director (New Business) is to be will be involved in land acquisition and planning process for acquiring new sites, support strategic business development, forming funding, deal structuring, and delivering operator and development JVs.

You will be tasked with creating new business opportunities and relationships, specifically in areas which have been targeted in line within the company strategy. A people person with natural gravitas, you will be developing relationships with key individuals and stakeholders at all levels, including Council Chief Executives, Directors of Planning & Regeneration and Local Communities.

As the Commercial Director (New Business) you are someone who comes from a sector such as Student Accommodation, Residential, Later Living, Build to Rent or Hospitality, with a demonstrable track record in land or development.

It’s essential that you have an depth understanding of the full development life cycle, including:

  • Funding partnerships
  • Planning
  • Early community engagement
  • Site finding and acquisition
  • Appraisal feasibility
  • Due diligence.

You must have;

  • Relevant experience gained as a Senior Manager or Director in a comparable fast-paced organisation with broad commercial management experience, in a real estate market of comparable complexity and relevance.
  • Surveyor background, or previously in a Development/Land Director role
  • Detailed knowledge of the land acquisition process, relevant legislation, geographical area of business and its key contacts e.g. Agents, Vendors, Planners.
  • Strong experience with the development life cycle.
  • Proven track record of Business Development within a comparable organisation.
