Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions. With more than 25,000 students, 4,500 staff and an annual turnover of £430m, we teach and research across a wide range of subjects in humanities and social sciences, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering. Based in a creative and culturally diverse area of east London, we are the only London University able to offer a completely integrated residential campus, with c. 2700 student bedrooms.

The Estates and Facilities Directorate is core to the University’s strategic ambition to provide a world-class managed estate with excellent facilities for staff and students. The University has bold ambitions over the next decade that will see QMUL grow and advance significantly as a leading research and teaching institution globally. To support this growth the University will need to apply innovative asset management techniques to maximise the potential of the existing estate portfolio whilst facilitating ambitious future development and investment in world-class facilities.

As part of the Estates and Facilities Directorate the Head of Strategic Space Management will take the lead role in ensuring that the University utilises and optimises its 238,000sqm estate portfolio to the greatest possible extent. Key aspects of the role include analysis and reporting on current space utilisation, engaging with the academic community to understand current space pressures, space strategy and policy development, input into brief development for capital projects, and design and implementation of new ways of working strategies to support QMUL’s overall strategy of growth and research and teaching excellence.

The successful candidate will possess proven experience and track record leading the development and implementation of space and workplace strategies at a senior and influential level. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with high-level influencing abilities and the ability to operate successfully in a large scale, complex organisation with a broad spectrum of stakeholder groups. We are seeking an individual that can demonstrate a track record of leading change and transformation in the way that space is used resulting in improved functionality, optimisation and user satisfaction.

This role presents and exciting opportunity to drive forward the campus development and innovative space and workplace management facilities and behaviours across a diverse range of workplace, teaching and research spaces, at a transformative period for the organisation.

Applications should consist of a CV and covering letter and should be sent to ben.duffill@mrgpeople.co.uk.

Closing date for applications is 13th January 2019.

Interviews are scheduled for late January 2019.
