The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is a college of the University of London and the only Higher Education institution in the UK specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East.

Based in the heart of Central London the School has some impressive facilities, including the Brunei Gallery, opened in 1995, which provides a 40-room conference venue. The estate also includes the SOAS Library which is recognised as a collection of national importance. In 2016, Senate House North Block opened, creating a single unified campus for SOAS. The redevelopment of the North Block of the building extended SOAS’ Central London campus, creating spaces that facilitate both formal and informal teaching and learning.

Reporting to the Director of Estates Property Services, the Head of Space Management will take the important role of ensuring that the University plans, utilises and optimises its estate portfolio. Key aspects of the role include strategic planning of future space needs, leadership of the introduction of new smart working practices to improve user experience and utilisation 30 days and oversight of space planning, re-design and decant projects.

The successful candidate will possess proven experience of space planning and workplace management gained across a live, operational portfolio in a client side, workplace consultant or service provider capacity. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential given the influential nature of the role.

Whilst experience of working in an environment with comparable property types to SOAS would be advantageous we are keen to welcome candidates that have led on space planning and workplace management from a variety of sectors who may be motivated by working at a strategic and influential level across such a diverse and challenging portfolio.
