BioMed owns and operates high quality life science real estate comprising 14 million square feet concentrated in the leading innovation markets throughout the United States and United Kingdom, including Boston/Cambridge, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle and Cambridge U.K. In addition, BioMed maintains a premier development platform with 2.8 million square feet of high quality laboratory and office properties in active construction to meet the growing demand of the life science industry.

Biomed Realty are seeking a Senior Facilities Manager to hold overarching responsibility for the UK assets, primarily in the Cambridgeshire area. This position requires a strong focus on customer service and the ability to develop & maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies, service providers, contractors, tenants, and employees to ensure fast, quality completion of a wide range of projects.

The Senior Facilities Manager will act as the spokesperson and go-to for all third party vendors and contractors on sites across the portfolio. You’ll be expected to oversee and manage all maintenance work in line with Biomed Realty’s high standards.

Strong financial skills are necessary for this role; you’ll be expected to produce reports on the financial status and capital expenditure activity of each property and all projects, plus manage capital and expense budgets alongside the Property Management team.

Working in conjunction with the Development team, you’ll work on tenant improvements, ground up & redevelopment projects from design through construction. You’ll also help transition properties from development and construction to operating phase.

Skills/Experience

Must have:

  • BSc/BA in Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressive facilities management - preferably in Life Science and/or Laboratory Facilities properties including start-up and commissioning of Life Science Laboratory and Manufacturing
  • Proven experience with sustainability & energy conservation programs in commercial or institution buildings required
  • Demonstrable experience within Facilities Management or another relevant field
  • Experience through technical education and hands-on-experience in the following disciplines:
    • HVAC design and engineering
    • Electrical design and engineering
    • Plumbing design and engineering
    • Other building support systems (i.e., fire/life safety systems and security)
  • Experience with managing 24/7 operations

Desirable:

  • RICS qualification desirable
  • Certification in facilities management such as British Institute of Facilities Managers (BIFM)
  • BREEAM, Well or similar accreditation
  • Experience managing vivarium or animal facility

Person Specification

  • Excellent leadership & managerial skills with a desire to train and supervise
  • Computer literate including proficiency with Microsoft Suite, AutoCad and maintenance management systems
  • Ability to read and understand building plans and specifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial terms and principles relating to facilities management and real estate.
  • Experience forecasting and preparing budgets and reports summarizing financial, operating & capital performance data.
  • Organized, task and detail oriented.
