About Hertfordshire Students’ Union

University of Hertfordshire Students’ Union support the University of Hertfordshire in providing industry leading commercial & student services to up to 24,000 students across their campuses and online. The Head of Community Operations will lead the commercial services functions and be heavily involved in volunteering and student support alongside other senior stakeholders from the marketing and student services teams.

The main venue at the union is ‘The Forum’, which after huge investment in 2020/21, re-opened its doors to students in the new academic year. This includes an informal bar/café ‘Seventy7’, providing a great place for students to socialise and grab a drink with friends. Also, a trendy and up to date late night venue ‘The Loft’ which gives students access to a great place to dance the night away with competitively priced menu offering. You can expect anything from Boozy Bingo to Bollywood Bhangra nights at this flexible and eclectic venue.

About The Role and Candidate

We are looking for candidates with a hospitality, retail or leisure background in public or private sector who can manage a commercial budget whilst also providing market leading services to a highly diverse student population. You will be able to manage a large team of up to 200 inclusive of managers, full time and casual staff, creating a dynamic and fulfilling environment to work in. Ideally the successful applicant will have an understanding of health and safety procedures and FM services.

Liaising closely with the marketing and student services team with regards to promoting membership is very important to the success of the students’ union, ultimately geared towards providing outstanding student experience. Other key stakeholders include working with local authorities and other key stakeholders at the university itself.

This role is contracted at 37.5 hours per week. 5 days in 7 with very occasional weekend work.
