The University of Sussex is a leading higher education and research institution. The first of the new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in 1961, Sussex is a successful, growing University with a top-20 place in the major UK higher education league tables. The University has a beautiful and diverse estate located in Falmer, to the east of Brighton and Hove. It is situated in the South Downs National Park and has amongst its buildings a core heritage estate designed by Sir Basil Spence.

The University has developed a £500 million masterplan – a programme of investment to modernise and improve the campus so that we can provide the best facilities for our students, academic and professional staff, and the local community. The masterplan provides a framework for the future development of the campus and includes projects to provide new state-of-the-art academic and research facilities; a new student village consisting of 2,500 new student rooms on campus to support the University’s growth plans; and significant investment in the preservation of Sir Basil Spence’s famous listed buildings and surrounding landscape.

As a member of the directorate’s Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for the leadership and motivation of a multi-disciplinary team of facilities management professionals to deliver exceptional levels of customer service. Ensuring successful delivery of these services in a cost-effective manner is key, as well as being responsible for the commercial management of the Facilities Management (SEF) contract.

The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in the delivery of total facilities management, ideally with a varied career of working with both service providers and end users. You will be able to demonstrate success in creating and leading a culture of exceptional quality and innovation within a comparable customer focussed environment. Strong commercial skills including budget and contract management will be essential in addition to possessing a demonstrable track record in change management and business transformation. This post will suit individuals who are already operating at a senior level, who thrive in collaborative, customer orientated environments and are adept in 360 stakeholder engagement.
