About the role

MRG Interim Executives have been retained exclusively by our client, a research-led public sector organisation in the West, to recruit an Interim Director of Capital Projects. This is a minimum six-month assignment with the possibility of extension. This role is being offered as either an FTC or interim daily rate.

Background

Our client has identified the need to quickly bring an interim resource on board to help execute the ongoing £50m capital programme across their estate. The role will be responsible for delivery of research and development, office and residential projects. With some projects completed and ready for handover and others still requiring funding and business case preparation, this is a multi-faceted role requiring a full range of skills and capabilities. Overseeing the development and finalisation of an estate-wide masterplan, this role has considerable responsibility for overall estate strategy, development and project delivery.

You will bring

As an experienced Director of Capital Projects from a public sector estates background (either consultancy or client-side), you will have a strong background and track record in the delivery of large-scale public sector estates capital programmes. You will have ideally have worked as Director of Estates, Director of Capital Projects or Operations Director for £50m plus portfolio of construction projects, having held Director roles in consultancy, public sector and government organisations and demonstrated experience in capital procurement and the ‘front end’ delivery of design, construction, and asset management.

You will lead the process for commissioning design and construction of capital projects, ensuring governance and oversight. The current capital programme includes several new developments as well as major refurbishments and infrastructure to meet future demand. Finally, you will lead a strategy on space utilisation and disposal of surplus assets that are currently underutilised.

In return

In return, you will have a leading role within a well-renowned public sector organisation and directly influence the capital and estate strategy for the next 5 years. You will drive change within the currently high-performing Estates team. You will be offered a six-month contract with the possibility for extension, as well as the opportunity to apply for the substantive post later down the line if you wish.
