How the Nightingale Hospital was built in 9 days

For all of us involved in the estates and facilities management sectors, we have watched in amazement at the logistical feat the NHS has achieved in building a new hospital from scratch in 9 days. A healthcare facility which will dramatically increase London’s chance of coping with the Covid-19 peak and one that other regions of the UK will be emulating.

It highlights the importance of team work and what can be achieved with a simple goal and lots of external stakeholders co-ordinated towards a joint endeavour.

The NHS were supported by 200 Army personnel from the Royal Anglian Regiment and Royal Gurkha Rifles in conjunction with leading organisations from the design, construction, logistics and facilities management industries.

Full details of the programme and project can be viewed here.

We are immensely proud to be working with the NHS at this time on the recruitment campaign to appoint several crucial Estates & Facilities senior management roles at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. It has been fascinating to learn about the scale, breadth and complexity of the capital development, estates and facilities management services that need to be provided to support the crucial clinical work of the Trust and its NHS partner organisations. A Candidate Brochure giving further background to this work and detailing one of the senior management roles can be viewed below
