The Management Recruitment Group has been retained by a notable University based in the Southern Home Counties to source an Interim Deputy Director of Estates for 1yr - 2yr fixed term contract paying £70k - £80k per annum + excellent benefits

Reporting to the Director of Estates, the work will include managing a small team of in-house and external Project Managers who work on small – large projects. Due to continued investment, the University is embarking on a large and ambitious building programme and it is expected that applicants will have extensive experience of managing medium to large scale complex building projects across a diverse property portfolio.

The role:

  • To manage the Capital Programme
  • To manage the annual long-term Maintenance Project plan
  • To provide clear strategic and operational guidance to Estates Projects Staff
  • To manage the complexities of both Capital and long-term Maintenance projects
  • To ensure project finances and environmental measures are managed effectively
  • To exercise effective leadership while at the same time working collaboratively practising effective teamwork, motivating staff and contributing to the work of the Senior Estates Management Team

Main Duties:

  • To deliver the University’s Capital Programme to quality, time and budget, benchmarking performance with similar organisations and other potential providers.
  • To guide University strategic level decisions relating to Estate Planning and Capital Development, whilst providing effective leadership and project management to a number of complex multi-million pound projects including monitoring and controlling all project finances, programming and quality matters
  • To drive change within the projects office and across all construction project delivery at the University, implementing a change Programme to be developed with the Director of Estates.
  • To establish and maintain regular liaison with heads of units to ensure that development work within the Projects Section is all in accordance with the requirements of stakeholders.
  • To manage and review the University’s Framework Agreements for consultancy services, looking at issues such as work allocation, consultant/ discipline performance and customer feedback all in a way to drive continuous improvement. Benchmark the framework performance against peer institutions and other similar clients. When necessary, co-ordinate and manage the procurement of new consultant frameworks assisted by the Procurement Office

This opportunity would suit someone with experience of working within the Capital/Estates department within a University or a comparable environment and applicants must have had experience of managing large complex building projects to the value of £20m to be considered for this role.
