| Summary: | Our client is one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies providing engineering expertise on the production, supply & distribution of power to clients in the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia & the US. Specialising in the design, project management & commissioning of HV transmission & distribution and power generation systems they are currently recruiting a HV Protection engineer to join their expanding team. With practical, on the ground experience of designing, building, operating and maintaining electricity distribution systems you will be able to demonstrate a sound technical knowledge of HV protection systems & controls and the relevant codes & regulations. Work will be in the UK, typically for Distribution Network Operators or private clients, but there may also be the chance to work on projects overseas. For those with the right qualifications and experience they will provide the opportunity to work on a broad range of interesting projects alongside experienced planners, designers and constructors.
DUTIES: • Design of protection systems at 400kV down to 11kV using modelling software • Provision of design expertise in all aspects of Power Systems protection, including automatic systems for restoring load. • Responsible for the production of Engineering and Test Specifications for new and existing solutions • Production of detailed design drawings for Protection and Control schemes. • Calculating protection settings for HV power systems / substations. • Checking of fault studies and protection setting results. • Configuration of relays. • Giving advice on commissioning stage of projects and undertaking the checking of commissioning documentation. • Application of safety assessments for the design of the protection system for 400kV substation and distribution down to 10kV BACKGROUND REQUIRED: An HND / degree qualified Electrical engineer you will ideally have proven track record in HV system Protection Settings to appropriate codes and standards including connection requirements to National Grid. Ideally you will have a background in the design and application of protection to either HV transmission systems, distribution networks or power stations, as well as being able to undertake fault level calculations and protection settings for complex power systems.
